In 2007, Kathleen graduated from the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music with a Bachelor of Music (2nd Upper Honours). She majored in violin performance and has always been an avid orchestral and ensemble player, participating in various orchestral and chamber music groups, as well as playing for a wide variety of productions and events.
A first violinist and violist in the Singapore National Youth Orchestra from 1998-2003, and concertmaster of the Dunman High School String Ensemble in 2000, Kathleen was part of the exchange programs organized by the Dunman High School String Ensemble, which travelled to Hong Kong and London to perform. She was chosen to attend a master class given by Dr. Howard Davies in London. She was also the principal second violinist in the Raffles Junior College Chamber Ensemble from 2001-2002.
Kathleen has had the opportunity to be part of the orchestra for the 2007 Singapore Season of The Phantom of the Opera and has also performed in a Chinese musical If There’re Seasons… by The Theatre Practice. She has also performed with the Singapore Festival Orchestra, Singapore Pop Orchestra, Bangkok Opera and Jakarta’s Nusantara Symphony Orchestra. Recent performances include Mozart’s Don Giovanni with the Singapore Lyric Opera and Haydn’s The Creation with the Hallelujah Oratorio Society.
Since joining The Philharmonic Orchestra (TPO) in 2003, Kathleen has played in several orchestral concerts, symphonic cycles, as well as ballets and operas with the orchestra. As leader of TPO, she has also performed Bach’s B minor Mass, Stravinsky’s The Soldier’s Tale and Puccini’s La Traviata.
Kathleen’s previous engagements include accompanying musicians Andrea Bocelli, David Foster and Chinese pop singers David Tao and George Lam.
Not just a performer, Kathleen has been active in behind-the-scene work. A student librarian at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory Orchestra and formerly a librarian at the Raffles Junior College Chamber Ensemble, Kathleen was appointed librarian and orchestra executive for the Singapore Festival Orchestra, which was inaugurated at the 2007 Singapore Arts Festival.
