Violinist Singapore Jay Cheng

Under the guidance of Mr. Foo Say Ming, a first violinist from the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Jay was awarded the Diploma in Violin Performance from the Associated Board of The Royal Schools of Music (DipABRSM) in 2011. In August 2010, Jay attended the Euro Music Festival in Vienna where he studied with Mr. Isaac Malkin (Manhattan School of Music, USA).

Jay was an active member of the NUS Symphony Orchestra from 2003-2007, and participated in the 2005 Aberdeen International Youth Festival. He also performed for various productions including Singapore Lyric Theatre’s The Merry Widow (2004)the Yellow River Cantata (2005); Dance Ensemble Singapore’s Butterfly Dreams (2010); and Singapore Lyric Opera’s “20 Years of Grand Opera” (2010)In addition to yearly concerts, Jay’s participation in string ensemble re:mix saw him perform alongside Taiwanese super band Mayday 五月天 for their Singapore concert (2010); at the JB Arts Festival in Malaysia (2011, 2013); the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts (2013); and at the Tainan Arts Festival in Taiwan (2017).

A founding member and manager of Resonance Quartet from 2010 to 2011, Jay performed extensively for weddings, corporate events and private functions, including themed performances for Fred Perry Subculture 2011 and RevUp@Orchard 2012. With VETTA, Jay performed at the Esplanade for its Flipside Festival 2012. He also landed a role of a violinist on HBO’s Serangoon Road (2013) in one of its episodes.

Jay graduated from the National University of Singapore (B. Computing with minor in Technopreneurship) and is co-founder/director of VETTA; and Becheras, a home & lifestyle products distributor.
