Esther, violin

Esther graduated from the Elder Conservatorium of Music, The University of Adelaide, with First Class Honours in 2015 where she studied Classical violin performance with Keith Crellin OAM and Wendy Heiligenberg. She formerly studied with Seow Jin Chong in Singapore.

Her passion for chamber music first developed in high school while studying in 2011 at St John’s Grammar School, Adelaide. She was assigned Music Leader of both the String Ensemble and Chamber Ensemble at school. This passion was further developed at university when she became a founding member of the Maple String Quartet in 2012. The quartet regularly played and performed for weddings and many other functions around South Australia. In 2014, they attended interstate workshops in Victoria – Mount Buller Chamber Summer School and the Ironwood Developing Artists Chamber Music Winter School, receiving intense training and tutorage from many leading chamber musicians in Australia. The quartet also participated in a masterclass by visiting artist Igor Naidin of the Borodin String Quartet in October 2014. Esther has also appeared on Radio Adelaide 101.5FM as a guest speaker and performer with the Maple String Quartet and the Royal Commonwealth Society Ensemble.

Esther is an active orchestral musician currently performing with the Orchestra of Music Makers, Singapore. Her experience in orchestral playing includes being members of the Elder Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra and the Elder Conservatorium Chamber Orchestra from 2012 to 2015. She has been concertmaster of the Elder Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra and also appeared as soloist for Elder Hall’s Evening Concert Series Duality, performing Vivaldi’s Concerto for 2 Violins in A Minor with the Elder Conservatorium Chamber Orchestra. Both orchestras have performed a diverse range of repertoire from classical symphonies to a jazz concert with soloist James Morrison.

In 2015, she attained an Orchestral Traineeship with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra (ASO). She was mentored by several orchestral members and assisted in ASO Learning Workshops for children of all ages throughout the year. She was also violinist for Co-Opera’s Mozart Season (2015), a South Australian based Opera Company, performing and touring regional South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales with Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutte.

Esther believes that music education should be an important part of every child’s life. During her years of study in Adelaide, she taught instrumental violin at several private schools and organised group performances regularly for her pupils to showcase their talents.

Esther currently teaches full-time.
